Westminster Abbey Tour - Mirandus Tours

Westminster Abbey Tour

Westminster Abbey is one of the country’s most important places of worship.  As well as the visually stunning Gothic style architecture, the Abbey plays a huge role in the nation’s heritage. The Coronations of every new King or Queen have taken place here since 1066! You can even see the actual Coronation Chair.

In recent times the Abbey has hosted the funeral service for Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997 as well as the unforgettable wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton in 2011.

A busy working church, Westminster Abbey hosts services every day of the week and welcomes worshippers irrespective of their faith.

Highlights of the tour include:

  • Henry VII Chapel – visually stunning side chapel. Final resting place of King Henry VII, the founder of the Tudor dynasty
  • Poet’s Corner – commemorates a huge array of famous poets and writers
  • Grave of the Unknown Warrior – remembers those who paid the ultimate sacrifice

Elizabeth I, daughter of Anne Boleyn, and Mary I, daughter of Catherine of Aragon, are buried on top of each other in the Henry VII Chapel. A strange arrangement since their mothers were great rivals in the time of Henry VIII.
